[117 seconds of silence]
[Chair ]: Come to order. This morning, our devotional exercise will be conducted by the reverend Patrick Foreman of Saint Augustine Church here in Montpelier.
[Reverend Patrick Foreman ]: Good morning. Good morning.
[Speaker 2 ]: Good morning.
[Reverend Patrick Foreman ]: Thank you. Couple of things. First, I just wanna let you know that at Saint Augustine Church, as you walk in, there is a candle that burns, throughout the time that you're in session. It's a reminder to us, to pray for you as we walk in and out of church because we recognize the importance of what you do. As someone who gets a fraction of the, responsibility of people coming to the door asking for vouchers for this, that, and the other thing, all the needs that people have, knowing that you have the weight of all the people in the state, we we pray for you and and ask.
That's why I was so honored to be here, this morning at the beginning of this day to just ask God's blessings upon all of you. As we pray to our loving God that you will have your collective wisdom and experience, the compassion in your hearts, the love that you have for all the people of our state, that you will pull that together. And it will be channeled through your discussions, that you will continue to serve all of us so well, that you will make decisions that benefit all of us, be aided by divine assistance in in that endeavor. And so this day, we ask God's blessings upon all of you to know that you are prayed for. It was so easy yesterday thinking everything is celebrations and parades and bands and everything, but you get down to the hard work of making decisions for our state.
And we appreciate your sacrifice, your efforts, and ask God's grace to come upon you that you will have a rewarding day today, that you will continue to grow in your relationships. And may God bless you all, the Father, Son, Spirit, and the creator of all. Amen. Of the United States of America, to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
[Chair ]: And now if you would please join me in a moment of silence for the border patrol agent who we lost yesterday, please. Thank you. And our condolences to his family. Are there any announcements? Senator from Chittenden.
[Speaker 2 ]: I'll I'll defer for a moment.
[Chair ]: Senator from Essex.
[Reverend Patrick Foreman ]: Thank you, mister president.
[Speaker 2 ]: We're having a we're having a really rough day in the kingdom, and I just wanna put a name to the face of the officer that was killed yesterday. His name is David Malan, and I thank you very much for the moment of silence. Thank you.
[Chair ]: Are there any announcements, senator from Chittenden?
[Speaker 2 ]: Thank you, mister president. If senators could remain in their seats when we adjourn, we will have, discrimination prevention training immediately following the floor session. Thank

[Speaker 2 ]: reading. Resolved by the senate and house of representatives that when the two houses adjourn on Friday, January twenty fourth, twenty twenty five, it beats me to get again no later than Tuesday, January twenty eighth, twenty twenty five.
[Chair ]: Now you've heard the reading of the resolution. The question is, shall the senate adopt the resolution on its part? Are you ready for the question? If so, all those in favor, please say aye. Aye.
All those opposed, nay. The ayes have it. And you have adopted the resolution. We now have Senate resolution, JRF6. Excuse me.

[Chair ]: Now you've heard the reading of the resolution. Under rule thirty four, the resolution will be placed on the calendar for notice. There are no orders of the day. Are there any announcements? Senator from Chittenden.
[Speaker 3 ]: Thank you, mister president. I was starting to write a note to ask, the senator from Essex, Orleans, I believe, if he wanted to have his brief remarks journalized. We don't have resolutions in the senate, so sometimes it's a nice way for people to know that we're thinking of them and that we care. So without any if there's no objection, I'd like to move that the remarks of the senator from Essex Orleans be journalized.
[Chair ]: Without objection, we will journalize. I have been informed by the secretary that we will need to vote. All those in favor of journalizing, please say aye. Aye. All those opposed, nay.
The ayes have it. Senator from Chittenden.
